The Passport
A passport is the only reliable and universally accepted document to verify your identity and nationality. It proves that you have the right to leave and return to the country that issued it.
Before departure, copy the first page. This contains your identifying information. Always keep it with you but separate from the original as you travel. Should you lose the original, you can replace it more easily through your country’s embassy or consulate.
Many countries are justifiably more security conscious post-911. The United States, in particular, is changing its travel requirements for both its own citizens and foreigners. The U.S. government has made a number of major announcements and changes to the implementation schedule in the last several years.
